Cooking

So I've been on a cooking binge. Not helping the waistline any. At all. Last night I made the decision to never bake again. I made a pan of biscuits. Real biscuits that you roll and cut out. I should know by now that baking and I do not get along. Normally I make drop biscuits and they are usually pretty good. Expect me to knead, roll and cut? Total disaster. Anything with yeast...it's the kiss of death. Hockey pucks are softer and lighter. Ugh.

Today I made homemade potato chips to go with our grilled ham and pepper jack cheese sandwiches. Used the mandoline. Note to self: There's a reason it comes with a vegetable holder. Took off the tip of my thumb and part of my nail. At the same spot that I hit the space bar. Dang it. I was emailing Sheri, typing as fast as I could and screaming on the inside every time I hit the space bar. Bleeding for over an hour. Dang.

Tomorrow might be a good day to eat out.

At least you're trying which is more than I'm doing. We ate out for the last two nights, and the night before we had something out of the freezer!

OUCH! My sister recently did the same thing to one of her fingers using a mandolin, except she cut it even deeper and had to go to the ER where they did a faux skin graft. Those things are wicked, I tell you! Hope it feels better soon.

I'm with you on the baking. The chips sound delish!

Note to self: don't cook and don't cut stuff up

Let's just say, I don't use a mandolin any longer. Once such experience was enough for me. (Had to get that last little end of the potato, didn't I?)

And I agree - drop biscuits are JUST fine!

I've done that more times than I would like to actually count. Once I couldn't knit, it was almost the end of the world! If you ever try baking again biscuts again handle them less ( as little as possible) and bake them about 25 degrees cooler than in says

OUCH!!! I'll plead ignorant...I don't even know what a mandoline is. :D I'm assuming some vegie slicing thing.

Yeah for cooking though...I love it when I have meals planned and my family eats well.

I like cooking, but anything involving yeast I leave to my husband. Which means on holidays he'll usually make a triple batch of homemade rolls. The rest of the time we do without.

Never heard of a mandoline either. Would have assumed it was a musical instrument. Guess I'll go look it up now!

Exactly what possessed you to do all this? Not enough challenges in your life? :-)

Sorry about the finger. I don't bake much either since I have been "burned" in that department. Will call soon. Need a Lisa-fix!

Hugs,
N

Mmmm. Sounds good. Nothing like a bit of fried finger with your chips.
