Setback

Puddin has little bumps on her skin. I had one removed last summer and 3 more popped up. They resemble something between a wart and skin tag. G & I have noticed over the past 3/4 months that one in particular has been getting larger. Several people have told me that they are caused by a virus. Yesterday morning Puddin was in J's room while she was "reading" and I was getting ready to run some errands. I heard a little yelp from Puddin. "What happened????" came out spontaneously. Puddin came tearing through the house to my bedroom. 15 minutes later J finally admitted that she had sat on Puddin's tail. I wasn't too sure of that but I put her pet restriction and let it go.

After J was in bed last night I found that the big spot was crusty. Closer inspection showed that it had been tampered with. This morning I confronted her with this information. She was emphatic that she hadn't committed any offenses. I smelled a rat. Another infraction (probably brought on by her lie) required that she stand on the front porch for 5 minutes. (This usually diverts a meltdown because she doesn't want anyone to see the crazy train ;D) As soon as I opened the door she apologized for lying and that she had been picking Puddin's bump.

I am disappointed today. I realize she has come so far but it's still hard to re-visit those behaviors that I thought had dissipated. She's on animal (any animal) restriction indefinitely. On a side note, she is sick again. Sore throat, fever, etc. So there's the good news of the day.

The best news is that I had a long conversation with the other joy in my life, Cindy. ~~~~~~~waving at Cindy~~~~~~~~~~MMMMuuuuwah and schmuv!

Setbacks are so hard! I guess it's like a relapse for addicts. I hope she gets back on the right track.

Ah, you know it is all part of the process. Sadly. We still struggle with pet issues here too although much more rarely.

Sounds like my life.

We go through cycles here. We have . . .

1. torment the animal phase
2. eat everything in site, hoard, steal, gorge
3. runaway or threaten to sometimes just to the doghouse (it is huge - but it grosses me out and he knows it)
4. not want to eat anything except pizza roll stage
5. I want this, no I don't this stage
6. Getting up in the middle of the night, which usually goes hand with the crazy overeating stage.

Sometimes they last 2 weeks, sometimes 4 weeks. At least they don't happen at the same time for the most part.

I smell a post coming on . . .

I'm sorry. I know how disappointing those setbacks are. As you know mine is regressing fast. You probably did this already but did you ask "why?" Mine don't always respond to the "why" question particularly well but sometimes with Corazon I get a little insight about what was going on that signals progress even in the midst of a setback if that makes any sense. Just a thought.

It is a set back, but, at least she did come clean. I hope she gets back on track in no time.

Yes, setbacks are so disappointing. But what I am amazed at is how you handled it. Plus it didn't take J all that long to fess up. My 16 yr old with RAD, etc will last days on end until backed in a corner with a video showing us that she did it and then say she only did it because of so and so. I am applauding both of you.

Well, you know if she was getting sick she had to make up for how vulnerable she knew she was going to be...just a thought.

Yay for sick kids! Parents who don't have kids with RAD think I am nuts when Tara gets sick but I LOVE it. She lets me really take care of her. PRICELESS. Enjoy your time!!

Oh how I hate these setbacks. We seem to be going through a string of regressions right now. I keep reminding myself that they are way shorter-lived than they used to be, and now they usually give way to greater healing. It's just part of the process. But they are so worrying. I have to remind myself of the above or else I will be in a panic. Hang in there. I'm impressed with how well you handle everything J throws at you. Very inspiring.

Actually I am sure it is a relief to realize that getting sick is what lowered her abilities. Not that Puddin deserved that. I am proud of her for fessing up, she is lucky to have a mom who can read her like a book. Setbacks are hard. Take a deep breath, it isn't permanent thank goodness.

Aww, poor puddin'.

Good on her for eventually fessing up, though.

Torina, I SO do the same thing when Jupiter is sick..I never mention it because people think I'm nuts...but it's truly so GREAT that she tolerates being mothered without a struggle :)
