Christmas Ornaments

Today the girls labeled Christmas ornaments with the names of people that they miss then we hung them on the tree. A concrete way to acknowledge the life they had before their forever home.

Cool idea!
I know Genea remembers her first family but she rarely talks about them. In fact it is Teena who is more likely to bring them up, even though she was only 2 at the time.

GREAT idea! I'm going to the store (as soon as they plow the foot of snow off the road..)

We also have a Yankee candle for each birthmom that we light on special days..

Finally! An idea of yours I'm not sure I like.

Perhaps because Christmas is supposed to be festive, and to banish sad memories.

Or, because I can't bear Christmas any more when my dad and brother aren't here?

Because I wish my older kids were here?

But putting ornaments on the tree for them would codify that sadness, somehow.

Instead of saying "be in the moment!" "Enjoy the present!" That tree would just mock me.

So, tell me why this works for you.

New reader here. (Guided here by Annie and Diana.) I'm curious to know how this works, too. To me, it sounds wonderful. But I think that for my kids (age 12 and 9 at adoption - now 14 and 11), I think it would be just another catalyst for problems. The idea is lovely. But for them, I am afraid it would be torture???
