Are You Ready For The Big News????

So......

Are you ready????

To hear the big news?????????

Drum roll please............

Ta Da!!!!!! I am updating my home study.

Again.

Somehow I'm sure that no one fainted about this news. Probably no one is even surprised.

Last Friday night I read Claudia's post. And I blubbered.

Then I read Bart's post. And I blubbered some more.

Going back to look at my list on AdoptUSkids.org I discovered that Liz had aged out and I turned into a huge puddle on the floor. Sleep did not come easy Friday night. I left a message for Emily at All God's Children. We talked Saturday morning and things started happening.

When I first decided to adopt domestically I was drawn to adopt teens. It didn't work out that way and I have no idea why except that I was supposed to parent J and K. I thought I was done but it looks like there is going to be even more estrogen around here. God help us all. Talking with Kristy (AT) made me feel much better and she thinks it's a great idea and a great fit (specifically because it's a vast difference in ages) in our family.

I'm specifically looking at girls, hopefully in Georgia, that are 16 or older and taking a Yondalla's Allegory approach. We'll see what happens.....

Stay tuned.....

Lisa, you're inspiring me! I considered teen girls for a while too. S came home at 11, adopted 12. She's come so far in a year. I'm so proud of her, and I shudder to think where she'd be if she'd aged out of foster care without ever finding a family. She had/has so much potential. To never let it be realized would be tragic. The faces of the teenagers on the photolistings are absolutely haunting. I can help at least one of them.

You've given me so much inspiration in my journey. I think you might have just done it again!

HUGS!!

Hoo WAHHHHH, that's awesome. Some lucky child is going to bed tonite having NO IDEA how much awesomeness is coming her way.

I love teenagers. When I was working I used to ask for the "worst of the worst", give me the kids with the fattest files. I love your perspective.

Nope, I didn't faint on the floor, but I'll bet someone of your friends or family will! LOL (mine did when we got to #4!)

Yikes! But congratulations. It's so sad that so many of those kids go into adulthood with no family.

Oh wow! Congratulations on this huge decision. I can tell just from reading your words that it feels so right to you.

I love teen-age girls. There is just something magical about them. I coached teenage girls in basketball for many years, and it was such fun.

I can't wait to hear how this unfolds. Congratulations again.

What can I say? There is one lucky young lady out there who is about to get her needs met and she doesn't even know it yet. How magical is that? Love you and what you are doing!

I am so excited for you and the girls (all three of them). It's funny you posted this today because I was thinking just this morning about why we started this whole process. It was to adopt a little girl between 6-10 that is waiting, with TPR already established. I am so grateful for my 3 fost/adopt children but that desire is still not filled. When God lays something on one's heart it is hard to let it go until you have completed His calling. Not sure if it will ever happen here with 8 children already but I won't say it won't. :) Again. So excited for you. I hope things go quickly and smoothly.

I thought they normally say it's best not to disrupt what I guess I want to call "birth" order? Will adopting older than your "first-born" (J) not cause problems with J's position as the big sister, the oldest, etc. or cause any competition between J and bringing in an even older child who may act even younger than J is emotionally?

You are just a saint, girl.

Congratulations. Not only do I think you'll make a good mom for a teenager, but I look forward to watching how you handle this new adventure so I can glean more from you! Will you be deliberately looking for another RAD child?

I have to admit I understand Jeannie Davis's concerns, just because it's what I did and we had lots of issues, but I think I know you and as Tim Gunn would say, you'll "make it work."
