Interesting Stuff - Updated

My friend, L, posted about a training with Denise Best that she and Christine went to on Friday. It was so interesting and I immediately had to give the test to both my girls. Both of them were able to do the belly test but K had trouble moving her eyes to the right on the finger test. Hmmmm......

Wondering does anyone read my blog from Kansas? In 2007 I made several inquiries about a girl named Elizabeth (Liz). She was almost 16 then and she wanted a family. I sent my study several times, filled out paperwork that was sent to me and never heard anything back. I assumed that we were not chosen for her and they had found her a family. Friday night I found out that she aged out of the system without ever having have someone claim her. It just about broke my heart. I would really like to find her. If nothing else to let her know that there was a family that wanted her and that tried their very best to be her family. To show up, to be a touch stone, to have someone to count on. I tried sending an email to her worker and leaving a message on her voicemail. Email was returned and the voicemail didn't work.

If anyone has any connections in DCFS in Kansas please email me. lisaamos@payco.org Please. I'm begging shamelessly. If anyone would link this or put out requests on their blogs I would be so eternally grateful. The more people that read about her the greater the chance that I may find her or someone to talk to in Kansas. Praying so anyway....

There's a possibility that I may have some other pretty big news soon. Stay tuned....

Update: I have found a contact person in Kansas. Waiting on a call back.

WHAT OTHER NEWS?????
Okay, you can't do that to me!

Don't know about the eyeball thing. I have a vague concept that if a person looks to the left while thinking/talking they are accessing the emotional part of their brain. Looking to the right indicates accessing the logic/fact part of the brain.

Don't know anyone in Kansas. That story REALLY sucks.

That is so sad. It sounds like someone dropped the ball on the paperwork. I've been looking through the list of children in our state (VA) who are waiting for adoption. Hoping in the next six months or so to start making some serious inquiries.

I'm with Essie, I can't...okay...don't want to wait. Tell me now! LOL!

I'm with Essie and De :) What, what, what?!

Also, the tests, I thought, were really interesting. I *know* I have brain damage, but I'm lucky, because so does everyone else.

I'm a lurker typically, but have to respond to the eye thing. My rad daughter's therapist noticed some things in a session and referred her to a visual therapist (a division of optometry). She's been doing it for four months and I cannot BELIEVE the change in her....in everything! Not just tracking and processing; everything! I finally asked the optometrist last week if it was typical to see change in so many other areas, because I couldn't think of any other change during that time span. She got really excited and said, yes, that does happen, because not understanding visual input is so frustrating, confusing, and frightening, but she waits for parents to mention it to her, rather than telling them to expect an outcome. It's well worth a try if you can find one and have the funds (or medicaid).

So sorry about the girl in Kansas. That just seems unexcusable to me.

I am not one bit surprise someone dropped the ball for that poor girl....but that just makes me sad, and angry for her! Grr...the system is SO screwed up! There is no telling how many adoptions don't happen b/c of incompetent people.

Yep...now I am anxious to hear your news....that is just cruel to do that to us!

ACK! We the people need to know! What?!!! What?!!!
You have such a big heart Lisa. I am going to link your post on my blog. I hope you are able to find her. I cannot imagine what it feels like to not have a family. There are too many that feel that pain.

Yep, I tried it too. Tortuga had real trouble tracking with his eyes and the belly thing-painful to watch!

I will post a link on my blog for you although I think we share lots of readers but just in case....

The child in me wants to say "Ha Ha - I know Lisa's secret big news!"

But I am an adult - so don't post this comment. ;)

I would go to www.fosterparents.com to the general message board and post this there. You might find someone in the Kansas system that would know.

News?!?! :D

I am just catching up so will have to try those tests on our boys.

Can't wait for the day you are able to announce you've connected with Liz. That story just resonates as something that is going to come to a better conclusion now that you're "onto" it. Go!

Holding my breath for whatever your big announcement's going to be.

So impatient - what's the big news?

And that is horrible about Liz, inexcusable. I work in homeless services, and we see some young adults who've aged out of foster, never had families, and never had anyone to teach them normal behavior to function in the world. It is just wrong.

Hi,

I saw a post on Dia's blog about your search and wanted to stop by.

I have extensive family in Kansas, and lived there for 6 years myself.

If I can help you in anyway, let me know.

Good luck!

Gabe was given some visual therapy pamphlets, but I need to look into an actual visual therapist for him. I think it would really help.

So glad you found someone in Kansas.

blessings!
