Some days I'm totally overwhelmed with how much stuff there is to learn. Today is one of those days. Multiplication tables, geography, spelling, history, science, geometry, creative writing, conjunctions, interjections, prepositions, adverbs, adjectives, states, capitals, main ideas, purpose of a story, grammar, and the list keeps stretching out in front of me until I feel like I'm drowning. It's all the responsibility that "I" am "the" one that has to get said information into her head. I get tired just thinking about it. If she were in public school I could "blame" someone else. That won't work since I'm the teacher. Geeessh.....
At this moment she's working on multiplication tables with School House Rock while she's working on pulling a tooth that has been loose for almost 8 months. Multi-tasking. Afterward she'll be doing the Timez Attack. Why oh why didn't we have these cool things when we were kids? What did we ever do without the internet?
Breathe, Lisa, breathe.......

I will say it again - I don't know how you do it! I honestly don't think I could ever homeschool Alyssa.
I enjoy her time in school WAY too much!
You are an awesome MOM and J is very lucky to have you!
I would need a refresher course in all those topics to be able to homeschool..... one day at a time.. your doing GREAT!
Some days I toy with the idea of homeschooling my kids and then I read a list like yours and I come to my senses. I'm not smart enough to teach them all of that. So, for now, I'm going to continue to leave it up to teachers. I really admire you (and I'm secretly jealous) that you're doing it.
Timez Attack ROCKS!! We use that around here too!!
I know how you feel--when my son comes home with 2 hours of homework plus 30 minutes of reading I feel overwhelmed. What the crap am I going to do when my daughter is in 1st grade next year? Then I will have 2 kids homework to worry about--oh my!!
That IS overwhelming. It makes you stand back in awe at how amazing our brains were created to be. Wow!
If you want to ooo and awe over beautiful snow, go over to my blog and check out my videos. At the very least they will make you thankful you live down south. :)
I too wish I had those things when I was a kid!
I thought about homeschooling all of my kids 3 years ago. I did come to my senses and realize half of them were already smarter than me. My oldest is in AP Algebra II/ Trig and AP Chemistry right now. Plus his second year of Spanish. Waaaaaay to smart for me!!!
The internet is a wonderful thing for our kids, isn't it? Not sure how we made it through school with out it. Awww, a dictionary, a type writer, and the library. My kids probably wouldn't even know how to look for a specific source in the library. Oh, how I love the internet!!!
Yes, Breathe...Lisa, Breathe! Girl, I bet if you walked into the public school to see what they are learning right now, you would feel much better about yourself!! RELAX!! Do you hear me?? RELAX! I have learned that when I DO quit stressing and relax, my kids learn a lot better! Didn't you just say on your blog the other day that she is ahead??? She may have to learn all that, but she has many years before she is out on her own, and plenty of time to learn it. Do you remember much of anything you learned before Jr high or High School?? I don't, and I don't even remember half of that either! haha
